University Teacher, English language and professional communication

At the University of Oulu, Languages and Communication Unit we plan and organize language and communication studies in accordance with the University of Oulu degree requirements for undergraduate students.  Education is tailored for the University personnel to facilitate the  possibility to complete and maintain language and communication skills and education is offered and implemented in co-operation with continuing education to meet the working life needs of companies and communities. Our teachers in languages and communication are teaching in all university degree programmes.

English language and professional communication

During 1,624 working hours per year which is in accordance with a separately agreed annual work plan, the selected university teacher will be expected to conduct a high standard of language teaching and teaching development along with other tasks in the unit.

Successful management of teaching requires a higher university degree, pedagogical expertise in language teaching, a knowledge of the European Reference Framework (CEFR), good knowledge and skills in the diverse use of ICT in different learning environments and an open and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and development. We strongly favor candidates with pedagogical studies, pedagogical awards and work experience in teaching academic, disciplinary and work-related language skills. Furthermore, competence to teach another foreign language will be favoured, too.

In addition, own research activity, research work and publications are also favored. Teaching skills will be evaluated on the basis of a teaching portfolio and a possible sample teaching lecture.

The wages of the university teacher will fall within wage levels 5–6 for teaching and research personnel in accordance with the university payment plan. In addition to the task-specific wage element, the university lecturer will receive a wage element based on personal performance, which may be a maximum of 50% of the task-specific wage element.

This task is to be filled from 1 August 2019 or according to the agreement. The Probationary Period is six months.
