|Postdoctoral Researcher, Artificial Intelligence in Digital Health|

A postdoctoral researcher position with an initial four-year appointment (starting 1.1.2020) is available in ‘Artificial Intelligence in Digital Health’ at the Center for Ubiquitous Computing, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (http://ubicomp.oulu.fi). In this project, the focus is on exploiting multiple data sources (e.g., existing large-scale cohorts, mobile sensing, and crowdsourced subjective data combined) for investigating how different musculoskeletal disorders manifest or trigger in people's lives. The project is conducted in collaboration with the Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Oulu Group (PRIMO), at the University of Oulu Hospital and the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. Finally, the candidate will gain leadership experience since the project will also employ two doctoral students to work together in creating tools for investigating musculoskeletal disorders.
The successful candidate is expected to possess an excellent command of data sciences and machine learning techniques. The earliest possible starting date is 1.1.2020, but the position will remain open until filled. A six-month trial period will be effective at the beginning of the initial four-year contract.
Required qualifications and assessment
The successful applicant must hold a PhD degree in computer science, information engineering, or otherwise related field. Candidates, whose PhD thesis has been submitted for review by 31.12.2019, are eligible to apply. In addition to the core background in machine learning and/or data sciences, experience in Human-Computer Interaction, social computing, mobile applications, NLP, and digital health, in general, are considered as additional merits.
Fluency in both written and spoken English is required as well as excellent communication and teamwork skills. Demonstrated experience in writing scientific publications, acquiring funding or participating in funding proposals, and teaching are considered merits. When assessing the qualifications, aspects that are considered include expertise on the research field and methodology, scientific publications, supervision experience, and activity in the scientific community.
Salary and benefits
The salary will be based on demand level 5-6 of the salary chart of teaching and research staff of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal work performance will be paid (maximum of 50 % of the job-specific component). In practice, the salary will be roughly 3500 – 4500 € / month, depending on qualifications, performance, and experience. The employed person will be insured by the university and provided occupational healthcare. Finland is known as a country with a high quality of life and good healthcare system.
