Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship (tenure track)

Call for applications for the position of Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship (tenure track), starting on 1 January 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, for a fixed-term period of five years.

The mission of the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is to conduct top-level research by national and international standards, and to offer high-quality degree and executive education in business and economics based on this research. We contribute to the societal interaction of the University of Jyväskylä by promoting university-based entrepreneurship and innovation.

The appointed associate professor in the Strategy and Entrepreneurship group of JSBE is responsible for research and teaching on Entrepreneurship, supervision of doctoral students, participation in research and education development, and acquisition of external research funding. The associate professor will also take part in the administration of the Strategy and Entrepreneurship group, as well as participate in working groups and other administrative tasks appointed by JSBE and the University.

The person appointed as associate professor is expected to conduct research on entrepreneurship. This can include multiple topics, e.g. family entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, venture creation, growth entrepreneurship, internationalization, responsible entrepreneurship, innovation.

The position has an emphasis on both academic and practical experience in the field of Entrepreneurship. A successful applicant must show evidence of the ability to publish research results in leading academic journals in the field of Entrepreneurship. Also of benefit is research experience in combining Entrepreneurship with strategy research and/or one of the three focus areas of JSBE (responsible business, digital business and economics, and empiric policy-relevant economics). Applicants are expected to show evidence of acquiring external research funding, building international research networks, as well as of success in teaching and supervision in universities. Excellent English skills are also required.

The position is filled as a fixed-term associate professorship of five years (tenure track), (see: the tenure track model for professorship). An especially distinguished and unquestionably qualified person may exceptionally be appointed directly to the position of professor presuming there is no candidate available who is more competent and suitable candidate for the position. When an employee has been selected for a fixed-term associate professorship, an evaluation procedure is used regarding the employee’s merits for a professorship filled through an invitation procedure. The evaluation procedure shall begin before the end of the fixed-term contract. The evaluation procedure follows the same practices used in the expert evaluation procedure for filling a professorship.   

The associate professor’s job-specific salary component is based on the job demands level 7 (3 851.33 €/month) in the salary system concerning   teaching and research staff at Finnish universities. In addition, a personal   performance-based salary component amounting to a maximum of 46.3 % of the job-specific salary component will be paid.

A trial period of four months will be used when the position is filled.
