The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit staff for the position of
Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistics beginning September 1, 2018 or as agreed, employment contract length maximum of two years.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in Central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The areas of research in statistics are computational statistics, causal models, design, nonparametric and robust multivariate methods, biometry, and environmental statistics. The main research areas in mathematics are mathematical analysis, geometry, stochastics, and inverse problems. These have applications in medical and industrial imaging. The department is a member of two networks of the Finnish Centre of Excellences, one in Inverse Problems, another in Analysis and Dynamical Systems.
The postdoctoral researcher will do research in statistics in an area matching the research profile of the department. The position is linked to the thematic research area "Decision analytics utilizing causal models and multiobjective optimization". Familiarity with causal inference is considered as a benefit. The position will be focused on research but will also include some teaching and supervision of theses.
The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial.
The job-specific salary component of a postdoctoral researcher is based on the job demands level 5-6 (2865,30 EUR/month - 3340,77 EUR/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46.3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
A trial period of four months will be used when the positions are first filled.
