The Departmet of Biological and Environmental Science is currently seeking to recruit staff to the position of Senior Researcher in Aquatic Environmental Science starting 1.1.2019 in effect until further notice.
Research of the Department of Biological and Environmental Science belongs to the University’s denoted core research activity field of basic natural phenomena and mathematical thinking. Areas of research strength in the Department include research of natural resources and environment, evolutionary research and biological nanoscience. The wide-ranging research area of natural resources and environment focuses on human impacts on the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources, and aims to provide tools for reducing harmful impacts of human activities on nature. This area integrates terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem research as well as conservation and management of natural resources.
Senior researcher is responsible for the stable isotope (SI) laboratory at the department and developing the research in the field of stable isotope analysis. The duties include the development, service, maintenance and modifications of all research facilities in the SI lab. The successful candidate will promote national and international collaboration and research projects and will supervise researchers and students and guide them to work with SI facilities. Senior researcher will manage and co-ordinate the work arrangement and budget and establish the good practices and guidelines for the analytical work in the SI lab. Senior researcher reports to the steering group and head of the department on the progress.
The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of Senior Lecturer are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good command of English language and an ability to teach in English are required.
A successful candidate has a PhD degree in a relevant field and post-doctoral research experience, with excellent records in science-based teaching, scientific research, and supervision of research. Candidates have demonstrated their potential to attract external research funding and to engage in PhD supervision.
The job-specific salary component of a Senior Researcher is based on the job demands level 5-7 (EUR 2 865,30 – 3 851,33/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46.3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
A trial period of four months will be used when the position is first filled.
