Our naturally beautiful campus in the Jyväskylä city centre is home to a dynamic multidisciplinary research university – a modern, open and collaborative community of 2,500 experts and 15,000 students seeking answers to the pivotal questions of today and tomorrow. It was here, in 1863, that Finnish-language teacher education began. Since then, the University of Jyväskylä has been serving the future. The dialogue between research, education and society is our driving force. We cherish this balance of research and education, and work to promote open thinking. We kindle the skills, knowledge and passion to live wisely for the best of humanity.
The Department of Chemistry, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Science is currently seeking to recruit staff to the position of
Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemistry for a fixed four year term, starting 1.10.2018 or as agreed.
The postdoctoral researcher will work in the research group of professor Kari Rissanen within the Academy of Finland financed project "Haloniumsupramolecular Chemistry, New Molecular Machines and Nanoreactors". We are now looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in the synthesis and structural characterization of novel supramolecular complexes, such as catenanes and rotaxanes constructed by halogen bonding as halonium ions (iodonium) as the halogen bond donor.
The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.
The eligible candidate has or is about to obtain a PhD in the field of organic, inorganic or supramolecular chemistryand demonstrates a documented track record of experience either in synthetic and analytical (NMR + MS) organic chemistry or in single crystal X-ray crystallography on large supramolecular complexes. True expertise and skills in organic synthesis of macrocyclic compounds (resorcinarenes and cavitands), in special NMR (DOSY, etc.) and in Mass Spectrometry (ion mobility MS), or in highly level crystal engineering and crystal growth would be an asset.
The job-specific salary component of a postdoctoral researcher is based on the job demands level 5-6 (2893,95 €/Month - 3374,18 €/Month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to the maximum of 46,3% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
