Post-doctoral Researcher, Entrepreneurship, for a fixed period of 1 September 2019 – 31 August 2023
The mission of the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is to conduct high-level research by national and international standards, and to offer quality degree education and executive education in business and economics. We contribute to the societal impact of the University of Jyväskylä by promoting university-based entrepreneurship and innovation activities.
Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics is an active, internationally-minded and cooperative faculty in the dynamic and international University of Jyväskylä. There are 20 professorships at the JSBE, and the total number of faculty is around 120. About 1.500 students study at JSBE. Each year, around 150 students graduate as Masters of Science (econ), and about 10 doctoral dissertations are publicly defended at JSBE.
In 2018, JSBE received AACSB accreditation, and Shanghai’s Academic Ranking of World Universities and Times High Education ranked JSBE among top 301 – 400.
Post-doctoral Researcher participates in the work of strategy and entrepreneurship research group. The research group studies and publishes in the fields of entrepreneurship, strategic management, and innovation studies. Research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice among other leading outlets in entrepreneurship and strategic management. Her/his duties focus in scientific research (including planning research projects and applying for research funding). Also teaching, supervisory, as well as administrative tasks are included in the work of the Post-doctoral Researcher.
The duties and qualification requirements and language skills for the position of the Postdoctoral Researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. According to Finnish law, a non-native university teaching and research staff member can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have good skills in English language.
Applicants are required to have PhD in entrepreneurship or other adjacent fields (e.g., strategic management, organizational behavior, international business, or technology management) as well as experience in research and teaching in entrepreneurship. Evidence on participation in research projects, research funding, and thesis supervision will be considered as an advantage for the applicant. While we consider all applicants from all areas of entrepreneurship, we value those that focus on startups or technology-based growth-firms. An ideal applicant should have an ambitious research agenda targeting to publishing in the highest impact entrepreneurship journals (e.g. Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice or Journal of Business Venturing) or general management journals (e.g. Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, or Strategic Management Journal).
The job-specific salary component of a postdoctoral researcher is based on the job demands level 5-6 (EUR 2935,55 - 3423,25/month) according to the salary system concerning teaching and research staff at universities. In addition, a personal performance-based salary component amounting to 6-50% of the job-specific salary component is also paid.
A trial period of six months will be used when the position is first filled.
