Postdoctoral Researcher/Project Researcher, cardiovascular diseases

University of Eastern Finland is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher / Project Researcher - a highly motivated candidate with experience in studying disease mechanisms or vascular biology - to work in a project funded by the Academy of Finland aiming to develop novel therapies for cardiovascular diseases, particularly myocardial ischemia and vascular malformations in Kuopio. Role and salary 

As a Postdoctoral Researcher / Project Researcher you will be working in the Vascular Biology research group at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Kuopio Campus, Finland. This position is connected to Academy of Finland funded Flagship GeneCellNano ( Project is aiming to develop therapy for cardiovascular diseases, particularly myocardial ischemia and venous malformations. You may also participate in collaborative projects studying disease mechanisms of other cardiovascular diseases. 

The goal of our research is improve therapeutics of cardiovascular diseases by understanding the biology behind the diseases, and to find novel molecules to inhibit or induce vascular growth.  We utilize state-of-the art cell biological, imaging and sequencing methods to study clinical samples, and identify novel mediators and signaling pathways that are used for gene/drug therapy to modulate vascular growth. The position is filled for a fixed-term period starting from 1 June 2021 until 31 December 2022, or as agreed upon with the candidate. The position is filled for a fixed-term due to it pertaining to a specific project. A probationary period is applied to all new members of the staff.


  • A suitable doctoral degree. If you have been awarded your doctoral degree less than five years ago, the post will be one of a Postdoctoral Researcher. If the doctoral degree has been awarded more than five years ago, the post will be one of a Project Researcher. In this context, the 5 years refer to a net period time, which does not include parental leaves or military service.
  • High motivation, experience in studying disease mechanisms or vascular biology.
  • Experience in single cell omics/bioinformatics, cell work or gene therapy is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and to supervise students.
  • Resilient and proactive attitude.
  • Good team-working skills.
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English incl. ability to write peer-reviewed publications.

The salary of the position is determined in accordance with the salary system of Finnish universities and is based on level 5 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff. In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be 6-50 % of the job requirement component. The estimated salary in the beginning of the employment will be 3 180,52 - 3 660,60 €.
